For records not visible online, Cattaraugus County also provides a county FOIL webform and County Clerk FOIL resources for filing a FOIL request or using the FOIL request form. The county FOIL process can require a full mailing address, phone number, email confirmation, and a specific description of the records requested. New York FOIL allows access to many agency records, but exemptions and privacy limits can apply.

  • For someone held in the county jail, start with jail inmate records, then call the jail if the online roster does not answer the custody question.
  • For booking photos, use the jail roster mugshots page and remember that New York FOIL does not guarantee release of every booking photograph.
  • For charges after arrest, use court records after a jail arrest, New York eCourts/WebCriminal, or the appropriate court clerk.
  • For the local facility page, use Cattaraugus County Jail.
  • For a sentenced state prisoner, use the New York State DOCCS incarcerated lookup rather than the county jail roster.
  • For federal or immigration custody, use the Bureau of Prisons locator, federal court or U.S. Marshals channels, or the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. Those are separate from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office.
