Cattaraugus County Jail Overview
The county jail division page identifies Cattaraugus County Jail as the county's maximum-security local jail. It is operated by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office and is the only detention facility identified for a facility page in the county research. The jail serves arrests from county law-enforcement agencies and local courts, including people held before arraignment, people held on warrants or bail orders, and people serving local sentences.
The facility houses sentenced and unsentenced male and female prisoners. The county page describes a broad offense range, from violations and misdemeanors to serious index crimes. It also describes the physical plant as a mix of linear-bar sections and dorm or direct-supervision pods, which means the jail is not just one open dormitory and not just a modern podular unit.
The sheriff correctional facility page includes public facility images and navigation for jail information.
That facility source points readers back to the sheriff's jail information, not to a private roster provider or commercial inmate search vendor.
Cattaraugus County Jail Population
Cattaraugus County Jail has a rated capacity of 148 beds. The DCJS and State Commission of Correction monthly jail population report prepared June 1, 2026 listed the May 2026 jail census at 122, with 121 people in-house. That monthly average was below rated capacity by 26 beds, or about 82 percent of the jail's capacity. Daily counts can change, so the May 2026 number should be read as a monthly report figure, not a guarantee for any later day.
| May 2026 Category | Count | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| Sentenced | 22 | People serving local jail sentences. |
| Federal category | 30 | Federal-category prisoners counted in the county jail report. |
| Technical parole violators | 6 | People held on alleged parole-rule violations. |
| State ready | 1 | A person ready for transfer to state custody. |
| Other unsentenced | 62 | Mostly people still before final case disposition. |
The federal category does not make Cattaraugus County Jail a federal prison. It means the local jail report counted federal-category detainees inside the county jail during that month. Sentenced state-prison custody moves to New York State DOCCS, while federal sentenced custody belongs in the BOP locator.
Cattaraugus County Jail Roster Search
The official current-custody lookup is the Cattaraugus County Sheriff inmate search. It is a free public roster hosted through the sheriff's OCV-style site. The search page shows one field labeled "Type to Search," public result cards, booking images, "View Charges" buttons, VINELink status-notification links, and pagination. For a fuller discussion of fields and fallback channels, the county roster process is also covered on the Cattaraugus County jail inmate records page.
- Open the sheriff inmate search and use the "Type to Search" field.
- Start with the last name. Try partial spelling, first name, or a known alias if the first search fails.
- Review each result card for the person's name, booking image, charge link, and VINELink notification button.
- Use the page numbers if the first screen does not show the person.
- Open the name link or "View Charges" to reach the profile or charge view.
- Call the jail if the arrest was recent, the spelling is uncertain, or the person may have been released or transferred.
If a person has moved to a state prison sentence, use the New York State DOCCS incarcerated lookup instead of the county jail roster. For federal sentenced prisoners, use the BOP inmate locator. For immigration custody after transfer, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. VINELink remains useful for status notification, but it is not a replacement for the agency that has custody.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff mobile app is another official route to inmate search, most wanted, sex offender, alert, weather, news, and direct tip tools. The app is listed for iPhone users and Android users. The research did not find proof that the app has a broader inmate roster than the public web roster, so it should be treated as a mobile access point rather than a separate hidden database.
The sheriff inmate search page is the best visual match for the Cattaraugus County Jail roster process.
The public roster view matters because it shows the actual search format readers should expect before they call or file a records request.
Cattaraugus County Jail Contact
The jail and sheriff's office are on the Court Street county campus in Little Valley, not in Olean or Salamanca. The jail phone is the best first contact for custody confirmation, visit questions, and jail-specific routing. The sheriff's main number is useful when a caller needs the correct division, a records extension, or warrant contact.

In-person visitors should plan around rural travel time, weather, and the jail's check-in rules. The official research did not locate a published visitor parking fee or a public transit route serving the jail, so those details should be confirmed before the visit is booked.
Cattaraugus County Jail Visits
The official visitation page says in-person visits are scheduled online through Calendly only. Phone-call scheduling is not accepted. Visitors must reserve a slot, bring photo identification, check in 15 minutes before the scheduled visit, and clear the metal detector. The visiting room is wheelchair accessible, and visitors who need help are told to notify staff at the time of the visit.
| Day | Hours | Scheduling | Key Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday | 2:45 PM - 10:00 PM | Online Calendly scheduling required | No phone scheduling. |
| Friday | 7:45 AM - 3:00 PM | Online Calendly scheduling required | Check in 15 minutes early. |
Visitors must use a complete sign-in entry and sign out when leaving. Adults and older teens need proper photo ID, and younger visitors have parent, guardian, or notarized permission rules. Each inmate is allowed up to two hours per week, with two separate sessions scheduled, and only two visitors may be present at one time unless a lap child can be held comfortably.
Entry screening is strict. Visitors must pass the metal detector, remove jewelry except wedding or engagement bands, and keep prohibited items out of the visiting room. Phones, cameras, camcorders, keys, medication, tobacco, knives, lighters, matches, sharp objects, and mechanical devices must be secured in a vehicle or locker. The visitation page says lockers require a quarter that is returned when the key is returned.

The screenshot supports the schedule table above because the county keeps the visit windows and rule list on the official sheriff visitation page.
Cattaraugus County Jail Mail and Money
The jail changed general correspondence to digital mail beginning September 1, 2025. The official inmate mail page says general correspondence should use the Clifton Park processing address with the inmate's full first and last name and Cattaraugus County Jail listed. Legal mail, packages, publications, and money orders continue to go to the jail facility, not the digital-mail post office box.
| Service | Provider or Address | Requirements or Limits |
|---|---|---|
| General correspondence | Inmate full name, Cattaraugus County Jail, P.O. Box 149, Clifton Park, NY 12065 | Used after Sept. 1, 2025 for digital mail upload to inmate tablets. |
| Legal mail, packages, publications, money orders | Cattaraugus County Jail, 301 Court Street, Little Valley, NY 14755-1090 | Continue to be processed at the jail facility. |
| Lobby kiosk deposit | Public visitation lobby | Available 24/7; accepts credit cards and $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills, but not one-dollar bills. |
| Remote inmate account deposit | Smart Deposit Plus or 1-866-394-0490 | Use facility code or pay location 5500 and the inmate jacket number. |
| Securus Debit | Securus website, app, or automated IVR | Maximum funding amount is $50 per transaction; funds are not refundable to friends or family. |
| Online bail | GovPayNet or GovPayNow | Needs DOB, jacket number, trial court name, and docket number. |
Mail that cannot be scanned may be returned. The county notes problems with oversized paper, very small items unless copied onto standard paper, Post-it notes, taped or adhesive attachments, staples, paperclips, glitter, sparkles, pop-out greeting cards, certified mail to the digital-mail box, and packages sent to the digital-mail box. Senders should include a full return address and should not use the digital-mail processing box as the return address.
The county Securus page explains debit, tablet, phone, eMessaging, media, and Video Connect funding for Cattaraugus County Jail accounts.
That source is useful because commissary-style account deposits and communication funding are separate channels, even when both affect contact with an inmate.
Cattaraugus County Jail Standards
The county jail page says Cattaraugus County Jail is in substantial compliance with New York State Commission of Correction minimum standards. The state Commission of Correction regulations cover county jail subjects such as classification, correspondence, visitation, sanitation, food service, grievance programs, medical and health services, religious services, exercise, legal services, reportable incidents, maximum facility capacity, and staffing. Local details should not be guessed when the county has not published them.
Staffing details are more specific than many county jail pages. The jail division page lists one Correction Captain, Captain Amy George, a Correction Lieutenant, seven Correction Sergeants, 43 full-time Correction Officers, and 20 part-time Correction Officers. It also says officers train through a regional Basic Correction Academy and a comprehensive field training program. No official current federal consent decree, DOJ investigation, or county jail construction bond item specific to the jail was located in the research.
